I'm starting an experiment with some of the social networking sites that are proliferating these days. If you want to play you can look for me on Facebook or Twitter. Also I will be doing a very occasional and informal blog on Blogspot. Just search for Phillip Hathaway at any of the links above (just click on them).
Over the summer I hope to be revamping the Hoshi Motors website to allow more input from our customers and friends. If you have any ideas about features you would like to see I would love to hear them. Please feel free to call or email me with suggestions on how to extend our little community!
Honda has been without a hatchback in the United States for about ten years (not counting the Civic Si which isn't really a mass production car). They have never sold a five door hatch in the States though it is perhaps the most popular configuration in Europe. Recently the autoblog Jalopnik secured a euro version Civic to drive in the great American midwest. It featured the same 2.2 diesel that will debut in the Acura TSX (see below), but used to even better effect.
Yes it's a five door. The rear handles are hidden near the window area. The long and short of it is that it got 72mpg on a 100 mile trip on I-80 outside Chicago! See the Jalopnik review at this URL for details.
If you have been waiting for Honda to bring some of the cars they sell in Europe to the United States, your wait is nearly over. For the last six years Honda has sold the European Accord in the America as the Acura TSX. Honda has announced that when the TSX is updated in 2009 it will receive the 2.2 liter clean diesel engine that has been available overseas for 3 years . Expect a very Civic like 35-45 mpg.
The TSX will debut in the US at the New York Auto Show in March.
